Write for us
We welcome considered pitches from writers who can help readers notice something new about running’s routes, shared spaces, customs or history. A strong proposal starts with one clear question and shows why it matters beyond a single personal account.
What we are looking for
Pitch original features, explainers, comparisons, histories and place-based pieces that fit the publication’s focus. A useful contribution has a distinct angle, gives readers enough context to follow it and avoids turning a personal preference into a rule for everyone. We are especially interested in evergreen subjects that do not rely on statistics, specialist claims or first-hand product testing.
Make the pitch specific
Tell us the working idea, the main question it will answer, why it suits Modern Running Journal and how you would approach it. Mention the kind of information or experience the piece would draw on, and flag any limits or uncertainties. Please keep the proposal focused rather than sending a finished article as an introduction.
Send a proposal
Use the Contact page and select the editorial question option to send your pitch. Include a brief note about relevant writing experience if you wish, but do not invent credentials or claim access you do not have. We cannot promise publication, a particular response time or payment terms through a general pitch invitation.
A run is more than a line on a map.
We look at the routes, places and shared habits that give running its character, whether you are heading out alone or meeting others along the way.
